The Leonardo Quiz

It’s the Insight School of Art Christmas dinner tonight so I’ve compiled this art quiz (a bit silly I know!)

Once upon a time there was a bloke called Leonardo who used to do a bit of painting. Rumour has it that when he was a student at Insight School of Art he used to spend most of his time drinking tea and eating Custard Creams. He didn’t do many paintings, but those he did do were quite good.

We found one of his paintings the other day which shows a woman moaning. He called it the Moaner Lisa. Unfortunately someone has painted over her mouth. Do you know what her mouth looked like? Try drawing it in (no iphone cheating!).

We found a few mouths around the studio but none of them seemed to be the Moaning Lisa’s. Have you any idea which paintings these mouths come from?

Allegedly, when Leonardo came to life classes at Insight School of Art he did some nice drawings. Talking in 1502 of his tutor, Rob Verrill, he apparently said ‘before coming to Insight School of Art I knew nothing. Everything I can do is thanks to this school. When I die I will leave all my paintings to Paul Regan’.

Here’s a drawing Leonardo might have done at Insight School of Art:

Not bad eh?

Have a go at drawing a portrait of someone sitting at your table in the same style as Leonardo.

Finally, when cleaning chewing gum from underneath a table at Insight School of Art during a Christmas break in 1507, tutor Di Roberts found Leonardo’s signature, with a question next to each letter. Can you answer any of these.

L – What Paul Klee took for a walk.
E – This Surrealist artist drew illusions, for example one hand drawing another.
O – A secondary colour
N – ?????? yellow also known as Antimony Yellow.
A – RA probably best known for painting and sculpting brightly coloured women.
R – First and surname of American artist born in 1925 and probably best known for his Pop Art collages.
D – Surname of artist whose exhibition just finished at the Royal Academy.
O – First name of Expressionist artist born in Austria, but fled to the UK in 1938.

By the way, if you would like to buy the table allegedly written on by Leonardo (price £100,000) please see me to write a cheque before you sober up and change your mind.
