Paul Regan - Director
Since founding Insight in 2001, Paul has divided his time between running the school and his own painting practice. He exhibits regularly in London, including at the Royal Academy and the Mall Galleries. Last year he had a very successful solo show at the Cass Art Space in Islington.
Paul has a post graduate certificate in Art and Design Education from the University of London.
Matt Davies - Teacher
Matt recently left secondary art education to rejoin St Mary's Primary School in Muswell Hill as the school's specialist art teacher. He believes a solid grounding in art in primary years is essential. Matt is passionate about teaching and provides the highest level of art education to his students. Matt's own art practice focuses on portraits in oils, usually larger than life size, and painted in monochrome, with strong contrasting light. He is currently working on a new body of work for exhibition.
Michael Kirkbride - Teacher
Michael studied at the Royal Academy and is a member of the New English Art Club. He exhibits regularly in London and has recently won the Odgers Berndtson purchase prize at the Curwen Gallery and both the David Messum Prize and Doreen Mackintosh Prize at the NEAC Open. His paintings are about people, objects, styling and the subtle nuance of gesture. Michael also teaches Life Drawing for the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy.
Estelle Lovatt - Teacher
Estelle mentors our Studio Friday artists. She is possibly best known as an art critic, regularly appearing on BBC and Sky news as well as reviewing art and exhibitions for BBC Radio London and Radio 4's Front Row. She is a highly experienced art tutor and painter.
Lara Sparey - Teacher
As well as teaching at Insight, Lara also works as a freelance designer and is Designer in Residence at East Barnet School. Her public art commissions are typified by her bold graphic style which is also evident in her drawing and paintings.
Celestine Thomas - Studio Manager/Teacher
Celestine attended classes at Insight before studying for a degree in Fine Art at Middlesex University. She worked at Insight throughout her studies and now teaches children’s classes and holds the post of Studio Manager.
Celestine has a studio in Barnet. Her own art practice focuses on colour, light and found objects, using a variety of media.
Rob Verrill - Teacher
Rob has had a career in state and independent education with responsibility for art planning and teaching. He is currently studying for an MFA in Fine Art at UAL. His work is an investigation into our complex relationship with the material environment, mainly through video and installation. Rob has exhibited at the Mall Galleries with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and ING Discerning Eye, at UH Galleries with Eastern Approaches Contemporary Art and has been shortlisted for the prestigious Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2018.
Karen Walters - Teacher
Karen teaches classes for adults at our Barnet and St Albans centres. She gained a degree in Fine Art from the University of Humberside (where she was awarded the Dean's prize for Endeavour in the field of Fine Art), and a PGCE teaching qualification from the Institute of Education. Previously Karen had worked in secondary, further and adult education for ten years. As an artist she specialises in portraiture.
