Artsdepot success for Insight artists.

Posted on by Paul Regan

We’ve just heard the exciting news that four Insight artists have had work selected for this year’s Open Exhibition at the Artsdepot in North Finchley.

Insight has been represented at the exhibition every year since it was launched, but this year is proving particularly special as not only have three of our adults artists been selected, but also thirteen year old Lucy Pritchard who attends our children’s class on Tuesdays. Lucy entered a really lovely acrylic landscape painting she produced in class a few weeks ago.

Margaret Crutchley, who attends our Studio Friday sessions for artists and Life Drawing on Wednesdays has previously been a prize winner at the Artsdepot Open. This year she has had her acrylic and oil pastel painting ‘After the rain’ selected. Margaret says that she painted it straight after a downpour at Pendeen, on the Land’s End peninsula.

Elise Mendelle, who attends our Advice and Guidance class on Monday mornings, has had work selected for the first time. Her selected oil on canvas painting ‘Life at the Beach’ is, she says, typical of her recent looser, Impressionistic style, where she has been really focussing on each brush mark.

And finally, our teacher, Rob Verrill, who is about to embark on a Masters in Fine Art at Wimbledon College of Art, has had work selected once again for the Artsdepot exhibition. Rob has been moving away from the abstract paintings we are familiar with, towards minimalist ready-mades with found objects and film. Rob explained that the work selected for the Artsdepot explores ‘our cultural relationship with the natural world and the impact that our acquisitive, materialistic behaviour has on it’, and that he hopes to ensure that the materials he finds ‘maintain their simple integrity and beauty whilst being returned to something rooted in the living world’.

Congratulations to all four artists. We wish you a really successful exhibition and an enjoyable Private View night.

The exhibition will run from July 22nd – 1st September. Check www.artsdepot.co.uk for more information.
