Level 4 is a course for skilled amateur painters who are looking to create a solid, consistent body of work to exhibit. Students are mentored to improve the standard of their work and learn essential marketing skills about how to get their work seen and sold.

Level 4 runs from January to December each year. All elements of the course are covered in two years, but artists may choose to continue attending for longer to reinforce what has been learnt.

Artists who join Level 4 receive weekly advice and guidance from mentor Paul Regan and five visiting tutors each year, all successful people of their field of art. They help to develop each artist’s ideas and enhance their skills and knowledge of materials, processes and techniques relevant to their own goals.

Students learn how to create an identity that reflects the work they make, online and offline, including launching a website, producing marketing material and maintaining a database of their work and sales.

Students develop their knowledge and understanding of art, contemporary and traditional and learn to confidently talk about their work as well as being able to research and deliver talks about the work of other artists.

The Level 4 programme offers students the chance to be a part of a vibrant creative community at Insight School of Art, working in bright, fully equipped studios. The school ethos is a very special thing to be a part of and unique to the area.

Students are introduced to a wide range of opportunities to show their work, including group and individual exhibitions, submitting to major open exhibitions, holding an open studio event, art fairs and approaching commercial galleries.

After two years students may choose to apply for MaSS, our mentoring and studio space programme for practicing artists or continue to attend Level 4.

Level 4 artists may find that attending additional classes at Insight School of Art is beneficial to the development of their work, especially classes relating to their favoured painting technique or Life Drawing.

Students applying for the Level 4 course should:

- be considering the possibility of launching themselves as a professional practicing artist.

- be looking for an exciting new challenge for 2012 and willing to work hard for success.

- be open minded and have a thirst for learning new things about art.

- have a passion for making art and strive to become a better artist.

- thrive when working as a part of a group.

A competent understanding of computers, the internet and email will be beneficial.
