Level 4 is a programme for skilled amateur painters who are looking to create a solid, consistent body of work for exhibition and learn the essential marketing skills to get their work seen and sold.

The course is a two year rolling programme which runs from January to December. Painters may join the course each January subject to availability. Some painters may choose to continue on the course after two years to reinforce what they have learnt and further develop their skills.

Current L4 painters are given priority to enrol each year before September 1st, after which places will be offered to new members who are deemed to be suitable for the course from their application email and an informal interview.

Painters who join the L4 programme receive weekly advice and guidance from Insight School of Art Director Paul Regan and a number of visiting tutors each year, all of whom are successful in their field in art. They support artists in the development of their ideas and to improve their skills, knowledge and techniques relevant to their own goals, working towards their own consistent art practice.

Painters learn how to create an identity that reflects the work that they make, online and offline, including launching a website, producing marketing material and maintaining databases of their work, sales and potential customers.

L4 painters develop their knowledge and understanding of art, contemporary and traditional, via talks, art fairs and commercial gallery tours. They also learn to talk confidently about their work as well as being able to research and deliver talks about the work of other artists and demonstrate to an audience.

The L4 programme offers painters the chance to be a part of the vibrant creative community at Insight School of Art, working in bright, fully equipped studios. The school ethos is a very special thing to be a part of and unique to the area.

L4 painters are introduced to a wide range of opportunities to show their work, including group and individual exhibitions, submitting to open exhibitions, holding an open studio event and approaching commercial galleries. Although some painters have had success exhibiting their work in their first year, we plan the course so that every artist confidently launches themselves as a practising artist by exhibiting a serious body of work after two years of study.

Insight School of Art also runs weekly leisure painting classes, including Life Drawing, and has shared studio space for rent, opportunities for regular mentoring and an Artist Network who meet on the first Friday of every month. If you are unsure which options are the most suitable for you, please contact us to arrange a chat.

Painters applying for the Level 4 course should:

- be open minded and have a thirst for learning new things about art and art practice.
