Working at the allotments

Posted on by Paul Regan

Below is some exciting information about classes during the week of 23rd June 2014, when the majority of adult classes will be taking place within Clifford Road Allotments.

We’ll update this page after the event with some photos.

Artists have used allotments as subject matter for years, studying the patterns and textures of the land, the natural and manmade structures and the activity. If you get a moment beforehand to type ‘Allotment paintings’ into Google images you will see many wonderful pieces to inspire you.

Please meet your teacher at Tudor Park car park at your usual class start time (where Clifford Road meets Tudor Road in New Barnet).

The allotment committee will be kindly lending a key to us for the week but we must keep the gates locked. Therefore if you arrive after the start of the class you may not be able to get in.

Your teacher will discuss the equipment that you will need to bring with you but here’s a guide:
A small set of the type of paints that you usually use
Brushes
A pot and bottle of water for rinsing brushes
Rags or kitchen towel
Drawing equipment
A small board
Paper suitable for painting
A light chair or stool
Sun hat and sun cream
A raincoat
A drink
A light easel if you have one
Masking tape

Please note that there isn’t a toilet available.

These sessions will take place in all weather except when it is raining. If your outdoor class is not running due to rain then we will put a message on the answer phone (020 8441 6153) one hour before your class. If there’s no message then the class is running out doors.

This will be a lovely experience, giving you the chance to work outside with relative privacy. If however you feel you would prefer to do your own work untutored in the studio instead then the studio is available.

Working at the allotments applies to the following classes only:

Monday 1 and 7pm
Tuesday 10.15am and 7pm
Wednesday 10.15am and 1.15pm
Thursday 10.15 and 7pm
