Artists on Desert Island Discs

You are probably already aware of how great Desert Island Discs is but you might not be aware of the ever increasing archive available online. They have a pretty good search facility which helps you narrow down to Art, Fashion and Design (149 castaways), and then to just Art (88 castaways), of which the most recent 28 artists are now available to listen to.

Last night I listened to Tracey Emin, which I enjoyed, and next I plan to listen to Sam Taylor Wood, Cornelia Parker and Grayson Perry. If I ever went to live on a desert island my luxury item would probably be the archive.

Although all past programmes and music choices are now listed they still have a long way to go until they are all made available to listen to online. But I think it will be worth the wait to hear artists like David Hockney, Elizabeth Frink and John Piper from shows in the 70’s.

It’s quite possible that young people doing Art GCSEs, A-Levels or degrees wouldn’t have heard of Desert Island Discs. I can’t think of a better way of getting first hand information to help form a critical study.

I feel I should end with the theme music.
