A nice busy weekend coming up…..

Posted on by Paul Regan

With three weeks to go until the end of summer term, this week is always one of the busiest of the year. This weekend, artists from the school are involved in three different events; The Level 4 ‘Apprentice’ style fund raiser at the East Barnet Festival; MaSS artists exhibiting at Tudor House (until 14th July); and Julie D Cooper at Childwickbury Art Fair. We recommend that you visit all three if you can.

At the East Barnet Festival, two teams from our Level 4 course will be selling paintings and competing to raise the most money for their chosen charities (North London Hospice and MacMillan Cancer). They have priced their paintings very competitively, with mounted work mostly on sale for between £10 and £30, which is far less than when exhibiting in a gallery, so please pass by to pick up a bargain (and maybe a future family heirloom).

Level 4 artists are developing their practices this year very well, following in the footsteps of last year’s group who are now successfully exhibiting here, there and everywhere. Recently they were challenged to respond to the same Olympic / paralympics brief as the twelve British artists who produced art for the posters currently on show around London. Here are some of the results. Feel free to let us know what you think?

One of our first Level 4 success stories this year is that Margaret Crutchley has been shortlisted for the Outside the White Cube exhibition, along with MaSS artists Helen Lee and Fiona Payne. Also, this weekend, MaSS artists Clive Patterson, Helen Ryan and Richard Greaves found out they have been shortlisted for the Cork Street Open. Both of these exhibitions select around 70% from the shortlist to exhibit this summer so good luck to all of them. Helen Lee has also had a lithograph shortlisted for the Bite exhibition at the Mall Galleries.

For the last three weeks of term we have put up a display of new MaSS work in the school gallery. You will notice how they have continued to go from strength to strength.

This week of the year is always a busy week not only because of all the exhibitions, but also because we start to contact people on our waiting lists if any spaces are available for our leisure painting and children’s classes next term. If you are looking to join a class at Insight School of Art please check the list of classes on our website to check availability. If it states ‘Waiting list only’ next to the class you are interested in, please contact us to be added to the waiting list. Classes that state ‘Enrol Now’ can be …… as it says on the tin …… enrolled for now.

Finally, anyone interested in joining the Level 4 course or being a part of MaSS next year should express their interest now. We will be contacting interested people from September 1st for starting in January.
