MaSS: Mentoring and Studio Space for Artists

MaSS is a support network for practising artists with mentoring and studio space .

Your annual membership to MaSS will include:

A designated work space in our lower studio, one day a week for 43 weeks throughout the year.

A 15 minute mentoring session with Paul Regan on each of your lower studio day each week during term time.

Nine Friday sessions each year working alongside all members of MaSS, consisting of:

- Six studio painting days with critiques from Paul Regan and visiting tutors who are experts in their fields.

- Three practical workshop days aimed at developing key elements of painting and art practise.

The chance to be a part of the end of year MaSS exhibition.

Support and advice in relation to entering open competitions, organising solo shows, approaching galleries and participating in open studios events.

Support and advice in relation to marketing yourself as a professional practicing artist, including a regular evaluation of your artist profile, online presence and marketing practises.

An opportunity to display work in the Insight School of Art gallery each year.

Access to the MaSS blog to share information online with other members.

An invitation to attend three MaSS social evenings each year.


Students applying to be a part of MaSS should:

- consider themselves to be a professional practising artist with some experience of exhibiting and/or selling their work.

- be looking to raise their profile as an artist throughout 2012, including marketing themselves, entering competitions and organising exhibitions.

- be looking for an exciting challenge for 2012 and be willing to work hard for success.

- be open minded and have a thirst for learning new things about art.

- have a passion for making art and strive to become a better artist.

- thrive when working as a part of a group.

- have a competent understanding of computers, the internet and email.


Applications and selection procedure:

You are welcome to arrange an appointment to visit the school and discuss MaSS with Paul Regan. Please call 020 8441 6153.

There are no application forms. You are required to plan and present your own application to include the information requested below.

Your MaSS application must arrive by email to info@insight-art.co.uk by Monday 3rd October 2011 at the latest, marked for the attention of Paul Regan.

Applicants will be informed whether they have been selected on October 10th. Successful applicants are required to pay the whole fee by cheque or debit card on acceptance.

If for any reason you are not able to complete the year we will not be able to refund any part of your payment unless a replacement student is found.

Applications must include all of the following:

Personal details: Name, address, telephone number, email and web address (if available)

Clearly explain why you want to join MaSS and what you hope to achieve by the end of the year, in no more that 200 words.

Give detailed information about your art education and achievements to date.

Attach three images of your work with short descriptions.

Attach an image of a piece of art that has inspired you and a short description explaining why.

Applicants will be judged on the content and clarity of their applications and their suitability to the programme.

Current Level 4 students wishing to join MaSS are only required to write a letter of application.
