Learn to paint and draw on one of our courses for beginners.

Beginners courses at the Insight School of Art are designed for people who have had no previous tuition using the advertised medium and offer a detailed introduction to the essential skills and knowledge required to start painting and drawing independently with confidence.

We currently run beginners courses on Thursday afternoons, changing the medium each term so that we cover oils, watercolour, acrylics and drawing over four terms. Most students choose to learn all mediums before deciding which to pursue further.

All materials and equipment are provided in the studio for these courses, allowing students to try the different mediums without any additional expense. Student who attend online will need to have there own basic equipment.

During each twelve week course, students are guided through step by step painting activities, introducing a variety of techniques needed to create successful work from landscape, still life and people. The course leader demonstrates every activity and shows examples of work by artists who have used similar subjects and materials.
