Learn to paint on one of our courses for absolute beginners.

Absolute beginner courses at the Insight School of Art are designed for people who have had no previous tuition using the advertised medium and offer a detailed introduction to the essential skills and knowledge required to start painting independently with confidence.

We run three different 'Absolute beginner' courses each year, covering oil painting in the spring, watercolour in the summer and acrylics in the autumn. Most students choose to learn about all three mediums before deciding which to pursue further.

All materials and equipment are provided for these courses, allowing students to try the different mediums without any additional expense.

During each twelve week course, students are guided through step by step painting activities, introducing a variety of techniques needed to create successful landscape, still life and portrait paintings. The course leader demonstrates every activity and shows examples of work by artists who have used similar subjects and materials.
