For centuries artists have used lettering to make art. From calligraphy to Pop Art, artists have included various forms of type in their work, for decoration or maybe to make statements about the world we live in.
During this workshop, students will initially experiment with drawing letter forms using a range of techniques and materials including learning about how fonts are constructed, calligraphy with goose feathers and applying gold leaf. Following a short talk covering the use of type in art throughout history to the present day, students will be encouraged to create their own artistic compositions by combining and interpreting elements from the morning session.
